Knowing which decommissioned wind turbines are suitable for refurbishing is the key to Rock Wind's success.

When you purchase a Rockwind wind turbine, we use our European partner to scout Europe for the best turbine in that size class.  Our Partner is an expert in wind turbines having installed more than 900 utility scale turbines around the world in his 25 year career. There are a number of used wind turbine marketplaces in Europe and we search them all for the turbines in the best condition.  We do an extensive survey of prospective turbines. We use turbines that have been produced by the hundreds to insure they are well designed and have spare parts available.  Unfortunately, many distributed wind turbine buyers in the US have been stung after buying new turbines – only to have their vendor go out of business leaving no service or parts availability.  We chose turbines made by the major turbine vendors (Vestas, GE, Siemens, etc) to insure excellent parts and service availability. These vendors have produced over 10,000 turbines each.

These turbines have be decommissioned very carefully as the repowering companies realize there is good value to used turbines.  They use experienced crews to detach all cables, etc and carefully unbolt the turbine components.
